Arlene should provide an outline for each of the readings as to emphasize the importance of the main points. This way, when the students are reading their pages each night, the outline will serve as a focal point.
In order to facilitate their reading Arlene needs to give the text some focus. Arlene could try to hand out worksheets to go along with the reading. . . The worksheets should help the students to focus in on what Arlene wants and what they need to know for class.
Arlene should also provide an outline of the chapter for the children which highlights the main points and important ideas of the chapter.
One way Arlene could improve her students' ability to understand the written material would be to have some type of chapter outline for the students to follow while they read. The outline could highlight some of the most important ideas from the chapter.
