Discussion: This is a problem that requires some investigation and pattern recognition. In this case, the student works out the result for the first 16 cases and finds that the lockers which end up locked are those whose numbers are perfect squares. She then reformulates the problem into a problem from number theory, recognizing that it has to do with characterizing the numbers with an odd number of divisors, which are precisely the perfect squares.

Written response: Good analysis.
