Application of Grading Rubric to the Worm Project

The material below is exactly what was given to the students as their grade report on the project.

Good project. You did a great job. I really appreciated the analysis of the mathematics being brought to the high school classroom. Your analysis of the case of stretching 20 inches was well done, and it was a nice extension done in a way that I wasn't expecting. The project was well done.

Rubric Breakdown:

Communication: (4.5/5) Some grammatical errors. In a few places I didn't quite understand what was being suggested.

Visual Representation: (5/5) Good graphs and charts.

Computations: (5/5) Good.

Proofs: (5/5) The proofs were well done.

Decision Making: (5/5) Good decisions were made throughout. You might have used the logarithmic function to refine your upper bound.

Interpretation of Results: (5/5) You had nice interpretations of the data.

Conclusions Drawn: (5/5) You did a nice job of bringing the mathematics to the high school classroom. You might consider using some challenging mathematics also. For example, the divergence of the harmonic series can (and should) be studied in a precalculus course. The proof by using 1/2's can be presented fairly easily (and as we shall see in class on Friday, it even relates to the proof that ln(ab)=ln(a)+ln(b)).

Overall Presentation: (5/5) Good.

Overall Impression: (5/5) Good project.

44.5/45 = 98%

Based on group evaluations, not all group members are receiving the same grade on this project.
