Call for Papers:
“Imperial Models in the Early Modern World”
The interdisciplinary Ahmanson-Getty Fellowship Program for 200607 (of the UCLA Center for 17th- & 18th-Century Studies and the William Andrews Clark Memorial Library will focus on the empires of the 17th- and 18th-centuries, while looking both to their antecedents and their legacies. The program will address both synchronic and diachronic issues, to further a conversation between scholars of different parts of the world who work on the period between the 1600 and 1800. The co-directors’ (Anthony Pagden and Sanjay Subrahmanyam) interests range broadly, from the Iberians and the Mughals, to the Ottomans, the Dutch, and the British, however scholars interested in China or Africa during this period are welcome and also are encouraged to apply.
Scholars in any field who have received a PhD in the last six years and whose research pertains to the announced theme.
Awards: Three consecutive quarters in residence at the Clark Library. Stipend is $27,600 for the three-quarter period.
Deadline for applications is February 1, 2006.
