of a Graduate Coordinator Position to professionalize the
administration of such things as processing of graduate applications,
annual oriuentation for new students, etc. Job description follows
below: GRADUATE COORDINATOR DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY Job Description Graduate
Coordinator is an 11 month, non-tenure track position. The Coordinator
will also serve as a Lecturer in the department, teaching one or two
courses per semester as appropriate. The Graduate Coordinator serves as
a resource and referral person for the graduate students, Graduate
Director, faculty Graduate Committee, and Department Head. Duties Facilitate marketing and recruitment efforts for the graduate program. Answer
inquiries from prospective students, referring them to individual
faculty members and/or the Graduate Director, as appropriate. Act as a
liaison between department, applicants and Admissions office, as
requested by Graduate Director. Arrange department visits for prospective students, as appropriate. Assist Graduate Director in communicating with prospective students during the admissions process. Assist Graduate Director in organizing student applications. Work
with a university web master to develop and update online graduate
program information, as well as other relevant information on the
department's website. Provide
support for History Department’s contribution towards the
College of Liberal Arts' minority recruiting initiatives, including the
"Pathways to the Doctorate" program. Manage student admissions files for the Graduate Student Committee. Organize and manage orientation for incoming graduate students annually. Provide
non-academic advising to graduate students regarding procedures, forms,
and other institutional aspects of successful degree completion. Create and maintain a file of graduate student funding opportunities. Assist Graduate Director in appointments for TA and GAL assignments. Assign office space to the graduate students. Act as a liaison with the Office of Graduate Studies for the Department of History, as requested by the Graduate Director. Act as a liason when needed with the College of Liberal Arts graduate instruction committee. Assist in the preparation of annual reports regarding graduate student progress, including reports of classroom visitations. Assist Graduate Director in the annual review of Graduate Teaching Assistants and Graduate Assistant Lecturers. Maintain the department's graduate student records. When possible, track the progress of graduate student alumni. Update department's Graduate Student Handbook, as necessary. Work with faculty Graduate Student committee to organize occasional talks, seminars, or special events with visiting scholars. Support and/or organize the History department's professional development opportunities for graduate students. Complete special assignments from Graduate Director or Department Head, as requested.
