Introduction

My name is Vanessa Marie Tigno. I was born in the Philippines and I am currently living in Salinas. I am taking the TMAC Major focusing on Programming. I hope to graduate on May 2004. This site is a representation of my Individualized Learning Portfolio (ILP) all throughout my experience here in California State University of Monterey Bay.

What is TMAC?

TMAC is short for Telecommunications, Multimedia, and Applied Computing. It is being sponsored by the School of Information Technology and Communications Design. From my own perspective, TMAC is the version of Computer Science in CSUMB. TMAC provides a hands-on experience on technology for students especially emphasizing on Computer Programming, Networking, and Design.

Major Learning Outcomes

As part of the curriculum, the TMAC major offers various classes that would achieve certain outcomes referring to which track the student has chosen. Each class falls under a particular division of Outcomes be it Core Outcomes, Design Outcomes, Technology Outcomes, Custom Outcomes, or Advance Outcomes. Capstone

Each class delivers an evidence of what the student has learned. This is seen evidently in the student's portfolio. It could either be a website, a paper written, or a final project i e. connecting cables or Service Learning. The most vital representation of the outcomes learned by the student is the Capstone Project. My Capstone Project is to create an online chess game (E-chess) that will be accessible by any person from any place in the world. This Capstone should represent most of the things that I have learned in CSUMB, be it from the classes that I took or the hands-on experiences. Furthermore, this focuses mainly on my Programming skills since I am taking the Tech/Programming track.

Generalization

CSUMB had provided me a great experience not only in learning but also in meeting new people and be able to express myself and nurture my self-esteem. With its diversity, I never felt rejected nor discriminated in any form. Although it offers limited courses, I still think that it is a good starting point for this university and hopefully, it will be improved in the near future. I hope I could use the knowledge and skills that I have gained from this institution in the job that I will be fulfilling in the future. My experience at CSUMB had really been a positive one. I would surely treasure this university and most of all the mentors, staffs, colleagues, and friends that I have met!
