Student
teams use the KEEP Tool to represent their team development during a
one semester Human Physiology course for senior pre-professional senior
Biology Majors. Teams represent their process and content knowledge
using this portfolio tool. Links to their work, reflections and
performance are provided within their portfolio snapshots. Each team is
truly unique and this is reflected in their snapshots. This tool allows
for the affective to integrate with the cognitive and contributes
significantly to student understanding of the team-based and case-based
approach of this course. Student Team snapshots enhance student
learning in the discipline of physiology and provide an assessment of
student learning that informs teaching practice.
Also part of this gallery is the first year Human Biology Core Course
that is being piloted in the Spring 2006 as a College of Arts and
Sciences general topics course prior to be offered as part of the Major
in Human Biology currently under development at Indiana University.
Like Human Physiology this course is team-based and case-based. Student
teams reflect upon their learning and document their team reflection,
assignments, and final projects within their team history portfolios.
Student team snapshots and faculty course portfolios will be linked
allowing for an integration and documentation of student and faculty
learning. A meta analysis of these linked portfolios is planned so that
the inquiry can be shared publically and be used to further inform
practice.
