Why Does Reciprocal Teaching Improve Students' Understanding

The goal of the class period was to improve your ability to analyze the relationship between teaching and student understanding. The class period included: 1) a short lecture about Reciprocal Teaching, 2) an in-class, writing assignment in which you defined understanding and explained why Reciprocal Teaching has a positive effect on student understanding,
3) group analysis of the same two questions, and 4) a class critique of the groups' answers.
