"Revision" Teaching the Curriculum Everyday Practices
Math Notebooks  Notebook rubric
The math notebooks are records of the students' math learning and work over the course of the year.  In them they have notes, math vocabulary, and problem sets that they have worked. It also serves as a math journal, and sometimes students have questions that they write about in these notebooks as well. These notebooks help students to see their own development as mathematicians.  They are also the primary location place of their written math work, with the exception of the practice workbook from Harcourt.  The notebook has an accompanying rubric that informs students as to what makes a well-organized math notebook.  Their parents also look at the math notebooks and score them. Hurley's students get two math notebooks, one for each half of the year, and they limit it their use to only their math work.
